“The truth in this situation doesn’t really matter because no one is going to do anything about it anyway.”

“What do you think you’re going to accomplish?”

“What difference, at this point, does it make?”***

These are all tropes one hears regarding the Antipope Bergoglio situation, and each one betrays the forgetting at best, and denial at worst, of a fundamental dogma of the One True Faith:

The Truth is a Person – a Divine Person, in fact. The Truth is Our Lord Himself.

Therefore, proclaiming the Truth is proclaiming Christ.

The proclamation of the Truth matters because Christ matters, and this fact is in no way contingent upon whether or not men act in response. Ultimately, Christ is The Actor, and He is not mocked, and He alone rules, and the victory is His.

The question of accomplishment is totally derived from the Will of God. When the Truth, which is Christ Himself, is proclaimed, He will accomplish what He wants, how He wants, when He wants, through whomever He wants, or totally Supernaturally, if He so wills.

The Truth always “makes a difference” because the Truth is Our Lord Himself, who is omnipotent.

(***Pro tip: if your argument leads you to start quoting Hillary Clinton, you REALLY might want to check your base premise.)

And so, we would all do well to use the proper pronouns. The Truth’s pronouns are not It/It/Its, but He/Him/His.

As St. Augustine’s famous saying goes:

The Truth is like a lion. You don’t have to defend HIM. Let HIM loose; HE will defend HIMSELF.
