Battle of Lepanto Mailbag and WhatIsUpWithTheSynod.com Link Roundup

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Dear Ann,

I was reminded at mass today to give a quick thank you for your Bead Squeezer article (Nov. ARSH 2013). Truly a life changer for me. The meditation is infinitely profound and the fruits are a perfect prayer checklist. I’ve got a long long long way to go but my priorities have changed over the past couple years: irregular church attendance is now daily, been to confession with sense of urgency, starting to attend the Extraordinary Form, and now making plans to get confirmed. It started when I tossed the iPod and instead prayed the rosary while running Central Park (NY) – takes about 3 miles for me to complete a set of mysteries. {So, you’re talking six minute miles? I am duly impressed! -Ann} So thank you. You’re in my prayers.

Thank you also for recommending the sermons of St. Alphonsus Liguori. They are marvelous in every way. I plan to buy a box of them to give away as gifts.

You might consider a book recommendation list on your website. I also read The Life of St. Joseph from your recommendation. It was wonderful and it’s prompted me to be more charitable. Next up is Augustine’s Confessions and The Life of St. Dominic by Augusta Drane. Dominic will likely be my confirmation name.

One last thing on the rosary. I just used my fingers to stay on track but recently bought an Irish Penal Rosary (An Paidrin Beag). The crucifix includes pictures of objects associated with crucifixion (eg. spear, nails, whips, hammer, rooster). It’s a powerful meditation of what Christ endured for us and I’m so impressed that these persecuted Catholics risked their lives to carry one. With only ten beads it was easy to conceal but still rebellious in a good way.

Signed,
D
