The most anticipated liturgical event of the year for me personally is here again: Tenebrae, the Offices of Matins and Lauds, generally anticipated to the night before. Enter into Our Lord’s suffering, betrayal, heartbreak and agony as He speaks to us through the Psalms, and the Lamentations of Jeremiah. Go tonight, Thursday and Friday if you possibly can.
It is traditional and befitting to depart from the church after Tenebrae maintaining silence. There will be plenty of time for chatting after the Easter Vigil, or on Easter Sunday. Take Tenebrae home with you. Keep it with you all year.
